THE MANIFESTO

An unfiltered why, where, what, and how.

We’re often told that Sparkmate is very different, and it’s true. You won’t find another Sparkmate anywhere, nor will you find a tribe like ours. Quite frankly we’re just a bunch of fearless engineers who care more about building crazy sh*t than following the norm. We all enjoy being different, but different in a way that makes us outperform the competition. One may be obsessed with PCB design, another may be a mechanical wizard, in fact one might even be a coffee-powered maniac (maybe that’s us all, except one madman who’s never experienced the joy of caffeine); but combined is what we call the Sparkmate Tribe.

So, how did we get here? And what are we onto? Officially, Sparkmate LTD ("Sparkmate") is a technology company headquartered in Hong Kong that builds and invests in frontier tech solutions to decarbonize the industry. But that's the boring version. We’ve got one very strong conviction that drives us forward: “The world's most pressing problems require hardware solutions.” Yes, you read that right. Hardware. Not software. For good reason of course.

This tribe didn't form by accident. Our founders saw something that pissed them off: brilliant engineers stuck in corporate bureaucracy, and entrepreneurs with world-changing ideas but no way to build them. The traditional system was broken - bloated teams delivering mediocre results, legacy consulting firms killing innovation with paperwork, and hardware startups dying before they could even prototype their first product.

So we said f*ck that. We built Sparkmate on a radical idea: small, elite teams of engineers could outperform entire departments of corporate drones. Rest assured we proved it by delivering over 60 successful projects, but us being us, we knew we could do even better. This is why we’re stepping up our game and now launching some new, bigger, better projects. You see, from day one, our mission was crystal clear: decarbonize the industry. Sure, it wasn't the sexy choice - industrial hardware never is - but it was the right one. And that’s what matters to us.

Today, with the world’s climate changing as we speak, people say that fighting climate change means sacrifice - drive less, fly less, live in smaller spaces, use less energy. That's not a vision of the world we buy into. Why accept a future of compromise when we can build one of progress? We believe in solutions that improve lives while solving the climate crisis. And the solutions are hardware-oriented by the way: clean manufacturing, clean mobility, clean construction, and waste and carbon capture. More hardware, less software. Cleaner Earth, improved living conditions.

But there’s also no debate that hardware is hell while software is salvation. Money and brains are fleeing the physical for the digital, and who can blame them? It was just a matter of time before we stepped directly into the fire. Innovation will no longer come from apps or AI models, it’s coming from unsexy industrial hardware. How industries handle heat, revolutionizing power electronics, reinventing manufacturing processes, all of that. So now that we know hardware is the answer to climate tech, what do we do about it?

Sparkmate is the first venture studio working entirely 100% on climate tech and hardware. We transitioned from being a service company during which we managed to get hundreds of successful projects under our belt. From building Europe’s first rocket landing system to electrifying roads that charge EVs while driving, it’s safe to say that we’re no strangers to climate tech or hardware. Quite the opposite really. But now we’ve made the pivot and are playing the game in decades, more on that in a bit.

Make no mistake though, when we say we’re a venture studio, we are in no way following the traditional way of operating, we’re Sparkmate before anything else, and we don’t follow the norm, remember? Traditional incubators operate like outdated factories, and we’re no fans of building cookie-cutter startups.

So here’s how we do it: if you’re a repeat entrepreneur who we like, we chip in 1.5 million USD for R&D + pilot deployments, give you our entire tribe of 30+ engineers, more than 100 innovators in our network, and 1000+ sqm. of industrial facilities. This quite literally sets you up to the teeth. Or, we co-invest that 1.5 million with you to launch new future-proof companies while also giving you all the other resources mentioned. So instead of just giving you a fish or teaching you to fish (traditional BS), we hand you a nuclear-powered fishing fleet and the keys to Atlantis… basically. Plus, we bear all the risk, what else would anyone ask for?

Also, let’s not forget that we’re based in Hong Kong which is a stone’s throw away from Shenzhen, which (drumroll) is the hardware capital of the world. Need a specific component? It’s probably being manufactured within a 50-mile radius. Want to scale up production? There’s a boatload of factories just around the corner. The world has been too blind to see where the future lies, and sure, it’s not the most risk-proof decision to go all-in to Hong Kong but who said we’re here to play safe? We’re here to get sh*t done.

Plus, no more social media, we said goodbye to that cesspit several months ago because building legendary hardware companies requires focus, depth, and real connections – not dopamine-driven content creation. We're not here to be influencers. We're here to build the future. Sure, going stealth means fewer random inbound messages. Fewer likes. Fewer superficial connections. But it also means more time in the lab. More focus on what matters. More depth with the people who actually get it. The entrepreneurs who wake up thinking about manufacturing challenges. The engineers who dream in schematics. The innovators who understand that hardware is hard, and that's exactly why it's worth doing.

We're not hiding – we're building. And if you're the kind of person who understands why that matters, you'll find us. Oh and don’t bother checking the coworking spaces or hipster cafes please… - we’ll be in our workshop building things :)

Speaking of building things, we’re already deep into a few ventures that are taking shape as we speak. From harnessing the sun’s raw power in ways you wouldn’t believe, to revolutionizing how industries stay cool (without cooking the planet), to pushing the boundaries of advanced materials that most people can’t even pronounce. Behind the curtains, we’ve got prototypes in the works and some killers in the industry ready to collaborate. We kind of run more like a special ops team; multiple projects run in parallel, each attacking different areas of climate tech, each pushing the boundaries of hardware. When we build, we move fast. None of that six-month planning bullsh*t. Our 5-week method turns ideas into working prototypes faster than most companies can schedule their kick-off meeting. We prototype, test, fail, iterate, and succeed at a pace that makes traditional hardware companies dizzy. Better done than perfect? Absolutely. But here's the thing - our 'done' usually outperforms others' 'perfect' because we're not afraid to get our hands dirty and learn from real-world testing. We've got the tribe, we’ve got the facilities, we've got the tools, and most importantly, we've got the brains and the balls to try things that the average engineers wouldn’t.

And that’s just what we can talk about for now. Either way, actions speak louder than mere words - and we’ve gone stealth because we don’t need to talk much. But here's what we can tell you: every single one of our ventures is aimed at solving real industrial problems, at scale, with hardware solutions that actually work. Let’s leave it at that.

As of now, the game plan is cut-throat and straightforward. 2024 is our year of proof - no concepts or powerpoints - real, working hardware solutions. And by 2025, multiple ventures will be up and running, reshaping their industries. Fast forward to 2030 and we’ve transformed how the world approaches hardware and climate tech. We'll have proven that the fastest way to solve climate change is to build better hardware, not write better software. We'll have shown that small, elite teams can outperform massive corporations. And most importantly, we'll have built a global network of engineering leaders who know how to turn moonshot ideas into market-ready solutions. Each venture we launch is a calculated bet on the future - a future where hardware leads the charge in fighting climate change, where industrial processes are clean by design, not by compromise. And we're stacking these bets, one venture at a time, building an ecosystem of companies. Every project we take on has to meet three criteria: it has to be technically challenging (because easy is boring), it has to have massive potential for climate impact (because we're not here to make marginal improvements), and it has to be scalable (because solutions that can't scale are just expensive hobbies). Every prototype we build, every venture we launch, every problem we solve adds to a growing arsenal of knowledge and capabilities that makes the next 'impossible' challenge a little more possible.

Now, there’s one more thing we can let you in on. The Sparkmate Tribe - how it’s been described so far - is not entirely accurate… there’s one missing component to it: our network. No, not the typical 'let me connect you on LinkedIn' bullsh*t. We have a real, battle-tested ecosystem of people who actually build things. People who’ve been in the trenches themselves, people who’ve got skin in the game, people who don’t just talk - they do. Repeat founders, entrepreneurs, experts. The real deal. Oh, and some of our past clients too - let’s not forget that they are industry leaders themselves. When we say we know someone, it means we've shared meals, visited factories together, and probably solved a few engineering challenges over late-night coffee. And speaking of factories - while everyone else is still figuring out how to get their first prototype made, we’ve already got direct lines to warehouses and manufacturing facilities across Shenzhen. So, bring it on.

The future isn't going to build itself, and it definitely isn't going to be built with software alone. It needs hardware. Real, physical, badass hardware. And that's exactly what we're building at Sparkmate. The game is on. See you when we want to show off a bit of our behind-the-scenes achievements, until then, we remain stealth.
